Ocean State University, James River Institute and Country Roads College all have prospects coming to campus this weekend for official visits.  With Hurricane Florence also arriving this weekend, there is a good chance flights will be canceled throughout the east coast.

Is it permissible to allow the institutions to continue providing lodging and food expenses for these recruits until they are able to return home?

Yes, however please keep in mind the intent of this legislation is to allow the institution to provide actual and necessary expenses beyond the 48-hour period.  It is NOT intended to allow a continuation of contact, entertainment, etc.

Division I NCAA Bylaw 13.6.4.2 states that an official visit may extend beyond 48 hours for reasons beyond the control of the prospective student-athlete and the institution (e.g., inclement weather conditions, natural disaster, flight delays or cancellations, airport security activity). In such instances, the institution shall submit a report to the conference office noting the details of the circumstances. (Adopted: 4/26/07 effective 8/1/07)

Division II NCAA Bylaw 13.6.3.2 states that an official visit may extend beyond 48 hours for reasons beyond the control of the prospective student-athlete and the institution. In such instances, the institution shall submit a report to the conference office noting the details of the circumstances. (Adopted: 10/21/08)
