August 27th: Summer Credits

Ocean State University (OSU) is in the process of certifying its student-athletes’ eligibility for the 2018-19 academic year.  A few of the OSU student-athletes that were enrolled in summer school will not complete all of their classes until final assignments/projects are submitted to the professors later this month.  When that happens, which of the following is TRUE?

A.  The credits earned will be considered summer credits for purposes of meeting credit hour requirements.
B.  The credits earned will be considered regular academic year credits for purposes of meeting credit hour requirements.

The answer is A.

NCAA Bylaw 14.4.3.5.5.1 states that if a student enrolls in a summer course but completes the course during the regular academic year, for purposes of Bylaws 14.4.3.1 and 14.4.3.1.6, credit for the course must be counted in the summer term of initial enrollment in the course. (Adopted: 3/27/18)
